Charlie Ergen is a rockstar in terms of making it big in today's world average business. He started out as a professional gambler and won a lot of money with his future business partner, Jim De Franco, before being accused of counting cards at a casino in Nevada.

Then they both decided to start their own television business and founded EchoStar, a company that dealt with satellite television dishes in the early 80s in the United States still in its early stages. He started the company with only $60,000 and began targeting areas around Denver.

Now, with a net worth of billions, EchoStar had a very humble beginning for a business in the United States. His operations began in the back of his truck, where his wife, Katney, and she used to sell satellites to make sure they got a foothold in the market.
