Shiv Nadar is India's leading entrepreneur and social worker. He is the Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of HCL Technologies. In 2010, his personal wealth is equivalent to US $ 4.2 billion. Nadar was born in 1945 in the village of Muluipozhi, about 10 KM.. (6.2 mi) from Tiruchendur in (present-day) Tiruthukudi district of Tamil Nadu. His parents were Sivasubramanya Nadar and Vamasundari Devi. His mother, Vamsundara Devi, is the sister of SP Aditanar, the founder of Dina Thanthi newspaper.
Nadar attended Town Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam. He was admitted to the first (sixth standard) in June 1955 and continued his education at Town High School until June 1957. Nadar holds a pre-university degree at American College, Madurai and a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
He founded HCL Enterprises in a garage in August 1976, then in 1991 he entered the market with a new look with HCL Technology. India has been flooded with tech companies in the last three decades, but Shiv Nadar's leadership has been the driving force behind HCL's success. Reaching a high position in Nadar's company is also not easy. Shiva once said, "I don't give opportunities for leadership, but look at those who can command."
A few years back, Nadar, one of the richest Indians in the Forbes list, worked in Tamil Nadu's DCM company till 1968. He inspired six people with him, why not start a company, which makes office equipment. As a result, the foundation of HCL was laid in 1976. In 1982, when IBM stopped providing computers to HCL, Nadar and his colleagues also built the first computer. At present, the situation is that 80 per cent of HCL's revenue comes from computers and office equipment.
